the whole "women's sports exist to protect women from men" framing is hilarious, given that a lot of these divisions were initially formed because men were deeply embarrassed any time a woman beat them at a sport

olympic shooting was mixed gender right up until a woman won the gold

There was a little kid in aqua shoes and carrying a shrimp net on the Falmouth train. He spent the whole journey from Truro breathlessly describing his day and his plans for the beach to his mum, the train guard and anyone else who would listen. Let’s hear it for enthusiasm!

In the boxes of the books from my grandparents, I found and claimed these 1884 edition of Little Women and 1886 edition of Jo’s Boys by Louisa May Alcott. Both were given to my grandma in 1927 when she was 13 by her aunt.
