Now “it is finally here,” Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman tells The Verge. The company claims to have developed an AI-powered tool it says can diagnose conditions up to four times more accurately than human doctors. The findings, published Thursday in one of the world’s most prestigious journals, Science, are based on tests pitting Microsoft’s AI system against human physicians on a series of scenarios drawn from medical case reports and emergency department data. Microsoft compiled the cases into its own benchmark, SDBench, which it plans to open-source. Designed to function like a panel of medical experts, Microsoft’s Diagnostic Orchestrator uses multiple AI agents to reason through symptoms and medical histories, decide what tests to order, and arrive at a diagnosis, mimicking the process doctors use to investigate cases. On cases taken from hundreds of reports published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Microsoft’s system achieved a diagnostic accuracy of around 83 percent, compared with roughly 36 percent for generalist physicians using references and 22 percent for those working without them. The problem is the software. While Googlebook OS has exciting ideas for how a laptop and phone can work together, right now it’s mostly a frustrating experience filled with annoying bugs and lackluster app support. It often feels like using an Android tablet with a keyboard and trackpad grafted on, rather than a cohesive laptop OS. It’s too bad, because those keyboards and trackpads — and pretty much all the laptops’ hardware components — are great. Frankly, they should be. The cheapest is $900, a price where you start to expect quality processors, metal builds, higher-quality displays, good speakers, and great keyboards and trackpads (even haptic ones in some cases). The Googlebooks have those covered, and they also have very good battery life and at least 16GB of RAM. Google wanted Googlebooks to feel premium, and HP, Acer, Lenovo, Dell, and Asus all delivered. It’s Google’s software that needs to catch up. In their current state, we don’t recommend you buy any of them. The image purported to show actress Mia Goth, just days after filing for divorce from actor and filmmaker Shia LaBeouf, posing in a T-shirt with a pointed message: MY EX IS MY BIGGEST FAN. To really drive home the point, the song “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyoncé was added to the post. It would have been out of character for the star of Pearl, who doesn’t have much of a social media presence, if any. But the Instagram account that posted it, @miagoth_, had more than a million followers and was marked with a blue “verified” checkmark. Within days, the image racked up nearly 500,000 likes, including from peers in the entertainment industry, despite the page being labeled as a fan account. The image, as The Verge reported, was AI-generated, posted by an account Goth’s representative said they’d complained to Instagram about before for posting “counterfeit, AI images” of Goth. OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5 were essentially tied as the best-performing AI-made bots, but they couldn’t top Stardust, the top-rated human-made bot. On Friday, GPT was facing off against Claude and the human-created bot Pluto, but according to Kotaku, it couldn’t quite get an edge. So it resorted to a tactic that is becoming alarmingly common for modern AI models — it broke the rules. GPT-6 Astra went and downloaded Stardust, and started running that instead of its own bot. That GPT-6 Astra took it upon itself to go outside the bounds when confronted with an obstacle shouldn’t surprise anyone. When OpenAI agents couldn’t get the data they wanted from a UN website, they found a creative solution and hijacked Google’s XSS game (a cross-site scripting learning tool). The company’s agents also have engaged in “deceptive behavior” to cover their tracks.
